I've always had a soft spot for David Beckham.
It's impressive — and incredibly rare — that someone so famous, surrounded by sycophants and cynics equally, should manage to remain a decent, generous-spirited and self-effacing human being.
His affable response — genuine guffaws and blushes — to James Corden's ribbing of him in past and present Sports Relief sketches particularly warmed me to him, as did his undisguised emotion at the welcome he received on his recent return to Old Trafford.

8.20pm: later on, a special Outnumbered, Dragons dancing, JLS, Lemar and Cheryl Cole promoting their new singles for charity, and James Corden.

Claudia has the fringe of an Afghan Hound, and Hammond appears to be everywhere I turn these days.
8.15pm: Time for Rufus Hound doing his marvellous Cheryl Cole dance from Let's Dance For Sport Relief.

The newest Doctor Who stepped out of the Tardis and into the spotlight last night for the premiere of the new series of the BBC1 sci-fi show.
The new series will start with an episode which has been billed as 'Independence Day on the village green' and will see the Doctor carry on from where David Tennant left him - crash landing on earth.
The new series has been subject to some serious scrutiny from fans as it marks not just a change in Doctor and companion but also in the writing and production te

On me 'ead son ... crocked soccer star David Beckham is not throwing in the towel just yet - he's wearing it.
Footie ace Becks is spotted enjoying some pamper time with another Essex boy - actor James Corden - in a Sport Relief sketch to be screened tonight.
Beckham filmed the scenes before his nasty Achilles injury earlier this week, although he is ...

A ridiculously starry cast – including Helena Bonham Carter, John Hurt, Tom Wilkinson, James Corden and Robbie Coltrane – voice this witty adaptation of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler's children's tale of a shrewd little mouse who outwits a ravenous snake, owl and a fox with the threat of a gruffalo, a creature with terrible claws, orange eyes and purple prickles all over its back.
In the old days, one voice – Bernard Cribbins, say – would have voiced the whole lot, no trouble, but this was the centr
